"Zhetygen" transport and logistics center opened in Almaty region

In 2022, after the division of the Almaty region into two, a project was launched to create a transport and logistics center (TLC) "Zhetygen". The facility is able to provide a more efficient transport and logistics infrastructure for cargo transportation due to its unique location near the international border with China via the railway network of JSC NC KTZ.

At the moment, the first stage has already been launched, the advantage of which is access to the terminal services around the clock. TLC "Zhetygen" primarily aims to provide and improve the transport and logistics infrastructure of our country.

The priority of TLC is to achieve a high level of accessibility for other regions of Kazakhstan and nearby CIS countries, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Thus, TLC "Zhetygen" plays an important role in regional and international transport links, contributing to the development of the economy and increasing the competitiveness of Kazakhstan in the global economy.

In turn, Akim of Almaty region Marat Sultangaziev expressed confidence that the event will be an important event on the way to further strengthen and develop cooperation in the field of logistics.

"Today, the region conducts trade cooperation with about 100 countries around the world. The volume of trade turnover in 2022 amounted to 3.3 billion US dollars, of which the share of exports - 307 million US dollars and imports - 2.9 billion US dollars. Over the past year, the volume of railway cargo transportation amounted to over 5.5 million tons for a total amount of about 17.5 billion tenge. More than 52 thousand people are employed in the field of transport and logistics in the region. Taking into account the existing potential of interregional cooperation, I am sure that today's meeting will expand the horizons of our cooperation, will allow us to find new sales markets, reliable suppliers and partners," he said.

The choice of the terminal location is due to the need to withdraw a significant amount of cargo work beyond the overloaded Almaty transport hub, which is also a global trend, as well as one of the most favorable from an environmental point of view.

Thanks to the cargo work carried out from the city limits, traffic jams are significantly reduced and roads inside the city ring are unloaded, which, in turn, contributes to improving the environmental situation.

"Kazakhstan is a country with a high potential to increase trade turnover with the countries of Southeast Asia through the development of transport corridors and cargo handling capabilities. We hope that the Zhetygen TLC will become a supporting rear terminal for China-Kazakhstan border crossings and increase their capacity, which, in turn, will make a strategic contribution to our economy," comments Almas Abaydeldinov, General Director of Istcomtrans LLP.

The company's plans for the development of the territory of the "industrial zone" are associated with the construction of facilities such as feed and oil mills, complexes for the storage and preparation of mineral fertilizers. At one of the stages of the development of the Zhetygen transport and logistics center, it is planned to build class A warehouse complexes on the "Build-to-Suit" principle up to 50 thousand square meters.
Thus, TLC "Zhetygen" will become an infrastructure driver for the development of the transport and logistics industry as a whole and increase the competitiveness of the Kazakh market.

In the Uygur district, it is planned to implement the Kalzhat transport and logistics center with warehouses, administrative buildings and roadside service facilities. The advantageous transport and logistics location of the region on the way of the transcontinental corridor gives the region access to the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) with a potential of 3,183 million people and determines the priority of the development of transport logistics. Moreover, the government decree created a special economic zone "G4 City" with an area of 30 thousand hectares. The FEZ is located north of the city of Almaty along the 68-kilometer A3 highway (Almaty – Konaev), a special legal regime is being established on its territory, taking into account 16 priority activities in the field of manufacturing, construction and logistics.
